Neuroinformatics for Aging
Our team would like to build a neuroinformatics-centered special interest group around the theme of interventions for aging. Our INCF SIG will focus on Asia Pacific community-building as a start but we also welcome global participation. This SIG is active on Trellis. To join, contact Eric Tatt Wei Ho (firstname.lastname@example.org) or request an invite via the forum [groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/brainconnects].

This SIG will be a community dedicated to the creation and application of neuroinformatics technologies to address clinical and wellness challenges in aging
About this SIG
Countries in Asia Pacific will face a major societal burden due to decline in mental abilities and health of the rapidly aging population. The technology solutions to this challenge will come from the intersection of aging neuroscience, cognitive engineering and information sciences. We call this field neuroinformatics for aging, where the management and analysis of data will be combined with neurorobotics, neuropsychology, clinical neurology and social neuroscience to delay the decline or improve the mental abilities among the aging.

Goals and outcomes
We wish to host a scientific symposium which will become an annual meeting of scientific talks and discussions between neuroscientists, neuroinformaticians, roboticists, neuropsychiatrists, neurologists and neurosurgeons. Forging international collaborations will be the primary goal at these meetings, as the means to (1) find and match expertise to project needs of each member group/country (2) promote the dissemination of tools, analysis techniques and knowledge of neuroinformatics (3) raise the visibility of neuroinformatics to researchers and clinicians from each member country through important use-cases in aging. The SIG will work towards 3 initial objectives which are (1) to establish a shared Asia Pacific neuroinformatics data repository and analytics workflows (to be seeded by collaborators from Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia & Singapore) (2) to define collaborative research projects and seek joint funding from national funders and (3) to develop a collaborative plan for neuroinformatics training i.e. annual short courses for graduate & postdoctoral students specifically for the Asia Pacific region.
