NPP – Digital Psychiatry and Neuroscience Joins the Neuroscience Peer Review Consortium
22 October 2026The International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility (INCF) is pleased to welcome NPP – Digital Psychiatry and Neuroscience (DPN) to the Neuroscience Peer Review Consortium (NPRC), an initiative managed by INCF to improve the efficiency of scientific publishing through the sharing of peer reviews between participating journals. DPN focuses on the application of digital technologies and computational approaches to understanding, diagnosing, treating, and preventing psychiatric disorders. Its scope encompasses artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, smart devices, wireless telemetry, and other technologies that support objective, longitudinal measurements of brain function and behavior. The journal places particular emphasis on translational research, encouraging approaches that use comparable measurements across experimental models and human studies. This focus aims to improve the predictive value of preclinical research, strengthen the assessment of therapeutic interventions, and accelerate the development of new treatments for psychiatric illnesses.
Making peer review more efficient
Scientific manuscripts frequently undergo multiple rounds of peer review as they move between journals. This process can delay publication and place additional demands on researchers and reviewers, even when earlier reviews remain scientifically relevant. NPRC addresses this challenge by enabling participating journals, with author consent, to share reviews of manuscripts that have been considered for publication elsewhere. By allowing editors to build upon previous assessments rather than necessarily beginning the review process again, NPRC aims to reduce duplication, make better use of reviewer expertise, and support more efficient dissemination of neuroscience research.
The addition of DPN broadens the range of neuroscience disciplines represented within the consortium, particularly in computational, behavioral, and clinical neuroscience. INCF welcomes the journal to NPRC and looks forward to working with its editorial team to support a more collaborative and efficient neuroscience publishing ecosystem.
