The University of Washington eScience Institute

The University of Washington eScience Institute empowers researchers and students in all fields to answer fundamental questions through the use of large, complex, and noisy data. Established in 2008, the Institute is the hub of data-intensive discovery on the UW campus in Seattle, Washington (USA). The Institute leads a community of innovators in the techniques, technologies, and best practices of data science and the fields that depend on them. The institute is made up of a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds in physics, astronomy, bioengineering, bioinformatics, data management techniques, and computer science. In collaboration with faculty, research staff and students at UW, these individuals advance the state-of-the-art in data science methods and in domain sciences that benefit from them. In addition, the Institute fosters expertise and helps members of the UW community and beyond to leverage data science tools, methods, and best practices in their research, teaching, and practice.
