About us

INCF develops collaborative neuroinformatics infrastructure and promotes the sharing of data and computing resources to the international research community.

INCF at a glance

Our mission:

Facilitate the work of neuroscientists around the world, and to catalyze and coordinate the global development of neuroinformatics. We aim to foster scientific collaboration, advance training in neuroinformatics, and act as an independent international facilitator.

Our strategic objectives:

  • Partner with international stakeholders to promote and prioritize neuroinformatics at global, national and local levels
  • Advance data reuse and reproducibility in brain research through the development of global standards, best practices, tools and infrastructure
  • Catalyze community-driven collaborative brain research projects by engaging scientific, clinical, technical, industry, and funding partners
  • Serve as a globally recognized leader for the development and provision of training and educational resources in neuroinformatics
INCF currently has Governing and Associate Nodes spanning 4 continents, with an extended network comprising organizations, individual researchers, industry, and publishers. The INCF Secretariat supports the Nodes with outreach, project management, and administration of communty-driven projects regarding standards, data sharing, training, infrastructure, and interoperability issues in neuroscience.

What is neuroinformatics?

Neuroinformatics tackles the challenge of integrating information across all levels and scales of neuroscience. Tools and standards provide solutions for fitting together and analyzing data that comes from vastly different timescales, techniques and animals across all levels, from single cells to the whole brain.

The field provides guidelines for recording information about data and how it is analyzed so that experiments can be reproduced and the data can be reused in new studies.

The INCF Network promotes global sharing of neuroscience data and software, and fosters international collaboration to advance the development of neuroinformatics solutions.
