Job Description

3-year PhD position in Cognitive Neuroscience in Majorca
The Clinical Neuropsychology Research Group (www.neuropsicologiaclinica.es) at the University of Illes Balearsis hiring a suitable PhD candidate interested in joining a research project in Cognitive Neuroscience for the neuropsychological assessment of executive functions in healthy and brain damaged persons. The project is inspired on modern theories of prefrontal cortex function and aims to develop novel and state-of-the-art neuropsychological tools for a valid and cost-efficient evaluation of dysexecutive symptoms in young and elderly adults, and patients with prefrontal lesions (Nyhus & Barcelo, Brain & Cognition, 2009). Successful candidates will hold a graduate or postgraduate (Masters) degree in areas relevant to the project, and are expected to run EEG & MEG studies, as well as to carry out analyses of event-related potentials, oscillatory brain activity and neural synchrony. Integration with anatomical MRI data will be available too. Candidates will join the PhD Program at the University of Illes Balears under the supervision of the principal investigator, Dr. Francisco Barceló. We request:* Good command of English and Spanish (both spoken and written); * Good interpersonal and communication skills; * Excellent academic marks in undergraduate studies; * Programming experience, such as MATLAB or equivalent; * Willingness to travel abroad for short training periods; * Experience in designing and running studies on human psychophysics, eyetracking, and/or electroencephalography (EEG) is desired but not required. We offer:* Integration in an friendly and enthusiastic multidisciplinary group; * Full time dedication to research activities; * Full access to our onsite facilities (EEG/ERP, eye tracking, neuropsych. tools); * Access to clinical samples from associated hospitals; * A salary equivalent to Spanish official standards (FPU & FPI grants) of circa 15.000 € /year. Financial support is provided by national and local governmental funding agencies (MICINN project ref. PSI2010-17419). Initial appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal for up to three years.
