The RAST allows you to search not only by providing keywords, but also by selecting one or multiple abstracts to search for its related abstracts.
This year, the RAST is also available in beta version for mobile devices.

During the last quarter of the year 2011, three of the INCF Nodes are arranging neuroinformatics-themed meetings.

First out is the Netherlands Node, with a day-long symposium on October 14, held in Haag. The symposium will feature presentations from both computational and database-related fields in neuroinformatics (see program), as well as a panel discussion on the role of neuroinformatics in new initiatives such as E-science, EuroBioimaging and the Human Brain Project; and the best way to achieve a vibrant community.

Next, in the beginning of November, is the Indian Node with a three-day event in New Delhi. The first day (Nov. 1) is devoted to a meeting of the Indian Node members. The following two days (Nov. 2-3) take the form of an introductory workshop on neuroinformatics, with lectures on systems neuroscience, neuroimaging, systems biology and modeling.

Last out on December 16 is the Belgian Node, with its first ever Belgian Node meeting on neuroinformatics - a one-day workshop which aims to disseminate to the Belgian community the recent developments within neuroinformatics, and to provide the community with an opportunity to interact and network with international and local experts.

INCF joins IBRO

From May 2011 onward, INCF is a member of the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO).

The membership will further INCF’s mission to coordinate neuroinformatics research and infrastructure while broadening its involvement with the global neuroscience community and activities represented by IBRO. Incorporated in 1961, IBRO has grown to
encompass 84 member societies in 61 countries, with a current membership of over 75,000 neuroscientists. At the time of its founding, no other global associations for neuroscience existed, and IBRO came to serve an important function as a builder of bridges between researchers in different countries.

Today, IBRO is well known for its efforts to foster neuroscience research and education. The organization's grants and fellowships facilitate travel and relocation for young researchers, especially from less well-funded countries. The IBRO education programme runs courses on various aspects of neuroscience all over the world, and has a particularly important role in Africa, Asia and South America. IBRO also has an official scientific publication, the biweekly journal Neuroscience.

The 50th anniversary of IBRO will be celebrated at its 8th World Congress in Florence, Italy, July 14-18, where INCF will be present as an exhibitor. Come meet us at booth 35!

On the 50-year anniversary of the call to send a man to the moon, neuroscientists join in advocacy for brain research.

Half a century ago on May 25th, president John F. Kennedy challenged the US to send a man to the moon within the next decade. Fifty years later, top scientists gather together with a diverse group of representatives from government, industry, academia, philanthropy and patients' associations to encourage the same sort of effort targeted toward brain and mental health research, calling it a "moonshot for the brain".

Former US Congress representative Patrick Kennedy has worked with a group of top neuroscientists to launch the initiative, called "One Mind for Research", which aims to improve funding and unify efforts in brain science. The initiative will coordinate academic, industry and advocacy resources, and raise public and private funding and awareness, to pursue a 10-year scientific roadmap to develop better therapies and cures for brain disorders.

We have just completed a major redesign of the INCF web portal.

The redesign includes a new look and feel as well as a reworked content structure, to make it easier to find the information you want. The front page is completely new, and we have also added new content such as the Newsroom section with the brand new INCF blog and a convenient overview of all RSS feeds associated with INCF. At the top of each page, the new global search feature quickly lets you find any software, resource, person or article you might be looking for.

As always, your feedback is very welcome!
