Background
The SRC is pleased to announce the 18th Annual Fall International Stereology Workshop to be held in New Orleans, LA in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the Society For Neurosciences. Over two thousand professional bioscientists, students, and laboratory technicians have successfully completed this comprehensive training workshop on the principles and practices of design-based (unbiased) stereology applied to neurosciences.

Workshop Organizers
Organized by Peter R. Mouton, Ph.D., Professor of Stereology in the Department of Pathology & Cell Biology at the University of South Florida School of Medicine Tampa, FL. Dr. Mouton will be joined by the course co-director, Professor Arun Gokhale, Professor of Engineering and Materials Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, GA). Drs Mouton and Gokhale have organized this Stereology Workshop since 1995.

Workshop Schedule
Start 8:30 AM Wednesday, October 10, 2012
End 5:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2012
Followed October 13 - 17, 2012 by the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neurosciences New Orleans, LA.

Safe and Secure Online Registration
Online registrations are accepted automatically on a first-come, first-served basis until all seats are reserved.

To foster an ideal balance for one-on-one interactions for participants and instructors, a limited number of seats will be available for the 18th Annual Fall 2012 Stereology Workshop. Thus, early registration is recommended.

Registration Fee for the 18th Annual Fall Stereology Workshop
The registration fee for the 2012 New Orleans Stereology Workshop is discounted 20% to honor the return of the course to New Orleans for the first time since Hurricane Katrina in 2005:
$850 for regular registration fee (prior to August 10, 2012).
$900 for late registration fee (after August 10, 2012).
The registration fee includes three days of instruction, refreshments; informal light drink and food reception on Day 2; one-on-one project designs with professional stereologists; computerized stereology demonstrations; copies of all PowerPoint slides presented and relevant reprints; and official Certificate of Completion signed by the course organizers.
See http://www.disector.com/18th-Annual-Stereology-Workshop-_c_35.html for the Cancellation Policy.

SRC Fellowship in Design-based (Unbiased) Stereology
One student will receive a merit-based waiver of the registration fee for the 2012 Stereology Workshop in New Orleans. For more information and a list of past fellowship winners, please see SRC Stereology Fellowship.

Accommodations
The Fall Stereology Workshop will be held at the Maison St. Charles located in the Historic Garden District of New Orleans directly across from the St. Charles streetcar line. The hotel address is 1319 St. Charles Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130. Discounted weekday and weekend room rates are available during the Stereology Workshop and the SFN meeting on a first come first serve basis. Note to receive discounted room rates reservations must be made by 8/27/2012. For reservations and room rates call Kate Archer at (504) 522-0187 ext. 263.
Brainhack is a unique event with the goals of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and open neuroscience. The structure for the conference builds from the concepts of an unconference and hackathon. The term “unconference” refers to a conference structure in which most of the content is dynamically chosen by the participants – and a hackathon is an event where participants collaborate intensively on science-related projects. Brainhack will be a blend of both elements. On the last day, collaborative groups will give a brief presentation detailing their project, and the progress that was made over the course of the Brainhack.

We encourage participants across all disciplines related to neuroimaging to come prepared to present and discuss their research interests. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to present a poster during the first evening of the workshop.

Please visit: http://www.cbs.mpg.de/events/workshops/brainhack for more information and to register and prepare for the conference.

Registration Deadline: 30 July 2012 (However, we encourage early registration, as space will be limited).

BIOMAG is covering all aspects of biomagnetism – a
non-invasive technique for mapping the activity of the brain, the heart
and other organs, with millisecond time accuracy. Every other year,
BIOMAG attracts more than 500 researchers from 30 different countries
interested in all aspects of brain and heart dynamics, from clinical and
fundamental but also technical and methodological point of views.

The scientific program includes, but is not limited to, technological,
methodological, clinical and fundamental research in biomagnetism. This
year, we will highlight the quickly growing field of human brain
dynamics, taking the MEG perspective but also taking advantage of the
multiple methods (EEG, fMRI) and recording levels (intracranial EEG,
LFP, unit activity) now available. Those issues will be developped in
five keynote lectures, twenty symposia and poster sessions.
