                <description>UCSF (San Francisco, CA USA) Developmental Cognitive &amp;amp; Educational Neuroscience Lab, under the direction of Fumiko Hoeft, is seeking to hire a research scientist and/or postdoctoral fellow for a minimum commitment of two-years. 
We are seeking a researcher who has strong interests and skill-sets in applying machine learning algorithms to large multi-site and complex neuroimaging and possibly genetic datasets. Topics of research will be on dyslexia, motivation and learning, academic ability, and healthy brain development.

&lt;h2&gt;Assignment&lt;/h2&gt;
&lt;p&gt;PDC-HPC  is the leading Swedish supercomputing center hosted by CSC. It operates state-of-the-art computational and storage resources for a variety of scientific application domains, including mechanics, computational chemistry, neuroinformatics, life sciences, climatology, and physics. Amongst these systems is the currently largest supercomputer in the Nordics, Lindgren, a 305 TF Cray XE6 system with over 36,000 cores..&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The successful candidate will join the user support team working closely with academic researchers to help them optimize their usage of neuroinformatics applications especially simulation of neural processes on PDC systems and also work with neuroinformatics applications in the context of the International Neuroinformatics Coordination Facility (INCF; &lt;span class="block link"&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.incf.org/resources/" class="standardLink"&gt;www.incf.org&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-converted-space"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;).                 <title>INCF Scientific Program Officer</title>

&lt;p&gt;INCF coordinates collaborative neuroinformatics infrastructure and promotes the sharing of data and computing resources to the international research community. We also aim to foster scientific interaction through information flow within our global network; valuate neuroinformatics activities and infrastructures; and to facilitate training in neuroinformatics.
The INCF Secretariat is hosted by Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;We are now looking for a scientific program officer with a strong background in neuroscience and/or neuroinformatics to play a key role in managing at least one of our scientific programs. The INCF scientific programs represent long-term strategic undertakings to address issues of high importance to the neuroscience community. Main responsibilities will include strategic and tactical planning of INCF scientific programs, facilitating communication within and between programs, engaging stakeholders, and managing the program projects by documentating progress, and establishing and managing
related contracts. Tasks include planning of and attendance at task force meetings, coordinating of semi-annual reports and maintenance of program-related sections of &lt;a href="http://www.incf.org/"&gt;www.incf.org&lt;/a&gt;. This position is full-time, based at Karolinska Institute, and involves travel and some irregular working hours due to collaborators in different time-zones.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The successful candidate should have the ability to balance perspectives, prioritize and maintain focus of the program. He or she must be able and comfortable communicating with scientists of various levels of seniority. For this position, a solid neuroscience background is required, with experience in neuroinformatics and experience as a program officer being highly advantageous. Fluency in written and spoken English is required.&lt;/p&gt;

The project is inspired on modern theories of prefrontal cortex function and aims to develop novel and state-of-the-art neuropsychological tools for a valid and cost-efficient evaluation of dysexecutive symptoms in young and elderly adults, and patients with prefrontal lesions (Nyhus &amp;amp; Barcelo, Brain &amp;amp; Cognition, 2009).

Integration with anatomical MRI data will be available too.                 <description>The Erasmus Mundus Joint Doctoral Program "EuroSPIN" (European Study Programme in
Neuroinformatics) is inviting applications from students having a solid background in
mathematics, physics, computer sciences, biochemistry or neuroscience (on a master level or
equivalent), in all cases with computer science skills. Documented interest in research like
activities (e.g. demonstrated in the form of master thesis work, or participation in research
related activities) is of large importance. Also fluency in English is requested.
Four partners participate. They are all research leaders in the Neuroinformatics field,
but they have complementary strengths. 
Each student will spend most of the time at two of the partner universities, and also receive a
joint (or double) PhD degree following a successful completion of the studies. The mobility
periods, as well as the courses a student will follow, are tailored individually based on: a) the
PhD students background; b) which constellations of partners that are involved, as well as c)
the specific research project. During the PhD period each student has one main supervisor from
each of the two universities that grant the PhD degree.
There are excellent scholarship opportunities for students accepted to an Erasmus Mundus
Joint Doctorate programme. An employment contract will be given to all selected PhD students

                <description>The International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) on Neuroscience of Communication: Function, Structure, and Plasticity is based at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, Leipzig, and the University of Leipzig (Germany). The IMPRS also involves the MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig, and the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London, UK. The graduate programme will start with the Summer Semester 2012 at the University of Leipzig (1 April, 2012).

The IMPRS on Neuroscience of Communication: Function, Structure, and Plasticity offers a unique interdisciplinary graduate programme to study the functional, structural, and plastic bases of human communication through an integrative and interdisciplinary approach. Its overriding goal is to train PhD students in multidisciplinary aspects involved in communicative action. Besides behavioural work, the programme draws on elaborate modern imaging techniques, including a 7-Tesla MRI scanner and a 306-channel MEG system.

                <description>The Neuroinformatics Laboratory (NILab) is a joint initiative between Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and the Center for Mind and Brain Sciences (CIMeC) of the University of Trento in order to promote interdisciplinary research in cognitive neuroscience. Neuroinformatics stands at the intersection of neuroscience and information science and it provides methods and technologies for managing, analyzing, and modeling neuroimaging data.

The NILab mission spans from scientific to technological aspects. The scientific research activity covers the design and the development of novel methods for the integration, the analysis and the interpretation of unimodal and multimodal neuroimaging data. The laboratory is co-located with the Neuroimaging Laboratory (LNIF) of CIMeC, which provides several facilities for cognitive neuroscience investigations such as MR (4T Brucker Medspec Scanner), MEG/EEG (Electa Neuromag), TMS and EyeTracking.

                <description>The Departments of Plastic Surgery and Biophysics at the Medical College of Wisconsin (www.mcw.edu) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a postdoctoral position in functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and biomechanical engineering. This individual is expected to develop hardware and software for a project comparing biomechanical metrics of motor-task performance with functional brain response as measured by fMRI in both healthy individuals and subjects with peripheral nerve injuries of the hand. Motor-task performance will be measured using a commercially available fiber-optic sensor glove system. The position will be based out of the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Center for Imaging Research. 


The Center for Imaging Research has state-of-the-art imaging facilities, including two research-dedicated GE 3 T whole-body scanners, a Bruker 9.4 T/30 cm small-animal MRI scanner, an MEG scanner, and a microSPECT/CT. A whole-body GE 7 T human MRI scanner will be delivered early next year.


This position requires an M.D. or a doctoral degree in an appropriate field of biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, biophysics, medical physics, neuroscience, computer science, or a related science field. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in MR neuroimaging techniques and methodologies, proficiency in MATLAB, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience with MATLAB programs Simulink, Stateflow, and xPC Target is preferred but not required. Knowledge of the biomechanics of the hand and fMRI data analysis software (AFNI, FSL, Freesurfer, etc.) is also highly desirable.

As a part of their training experience, each researcher will be based in one country but will spend some of their time abroad during secondment periods within the network. Salary and Benefits for the Positions

Eligibility
Candidates for ESR positions must be, at the time of recruitment, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree, which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided. In practice, this means they should not have obtained any degree before 31st December 2007 that would entitle them to enroll for a doctorate. In general, this is usually a suitably qualifying Masters degree.
Candidates for ER positions must not have worked in a research position / received research training for more than 5 years of their undergraduate degree. The undergraduate degree is the first degree, which allowed them to embark on a PhD program, typically a BA or BSc. Years since the undergraduate degree working outside research do not count.
Candidates are normally required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up their appointment. At the time of recruitment by the host organization, candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization (i.e. depending on the NAMASEN network partner to apply for) for more than 12 months between 1 November 2008 and 31 December 2011.

&lt;p&gt;The Child Mind Institute (CMI; http://www.childmind.org/) is currently recruiting post-doctoral fellows interested in the application of discovery-science based approaches to the study of human brain function and the characterization of brain development and maturation in clinical and non-clinical populations. The overarching goal of our work is to identify objective imaging-, phenotypic- and genetic-based markers of pathology, that will eventually serve to facilitate the detection of psychiatric illness and/or guide clinicians in the selection of treatments and determination of treatment response.  Fellows will be expected to take a multidisciplinary approach to their work, drawing from a broad range of disciplines (e.g., clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, engineering, mathematics, neuropsychology). In order to facilitate this process, they will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, integrating findings obtained from a variety of imaging approaches including: resting state functional MRI, simultaneous EEG/fMRI, diffusion tensor imaging, cortical thickness, volumetrics.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Qualifications: The minimum qualifications for a successful candidate include:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;completed PhD in biomedical engineering, cognitive neuroscience, clinical neuroscience, clinical psychology, computer science, mathematics, neuropsychology or related fields&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;significant prior neuroimaging experience with functional MRI, EEG and/or MEG&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The Child Mind Institute (CMI; http://www.childmind.org/) is currently recruiting two research programmers interested in the study of Connectomics and its applications to neuroscience and psychiatry. Responsibilities for these research programmer positions will include the design, implementation, and support of software for the analysis of functional and structural MRI data obtained from typically developing, healthy aging and clinical populations.  Analytic approaches will focus on data-exploration with univariate and multivariate techniques emerging from machine-learning theory, statistics, graph theory, and bioinformatics, as well as hypothesis testing. Informatics support for data-distribution efforts will also be required, as part of the CMI's expressed mission is to openly share data and analytic approaches with the scientific community in order to help accelerate the pace of science.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Research programmers will work as part of a multidisciplinary team focused on the integration of findings from a broad spectrum of imaging approaches (e.g., resting state functional MRI, simultaneous EEG/fMRI, diffusion tensor imaging, cortical thickness and voxel-based morphometry). Flexibility exists for the development and publication of novel analytic approaches, visualization techniques and algorithms.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Required Education and Experience:
- BA/BS degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field required (advanced degrees preferred). Alternative degree fields will be considered/accepted if accompanied by equivalent experience (depending on nature and depth of experience as it relates to relevant projects).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We are currently seeking a biocurator to work on the &lt;a class="external-link" href="http://www.virtualflybrain.org"&gt;Virtual Fly Brain&lt;/a&gt; project, a collaboration between the labs of Cahir O'Kane (Cambridge) and J. Douglas Armstrong (Edinburgh), which has developed a rigorously curated data-model (ontology) of Drosophila neuroanatomy in a form that can be easily queried and integrated with related genetic and physiological data. This ontology is used extensively by FlyBase to annotate genetic data and is the engine for queries for neurons, expression and phenotypes on the Virtual Fly Brain web site.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Based in the FlyBase Cambridge office, the successful applicant will:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;work as part of a small team to refine our ontological model of the Drosophila brain based on the literature and consultation with experts&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;work as part of the FlyBase curation team to curate expression data from the neurobiology literature into FlyBase&amp;nbsp;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;contribute to design of Virtual Fly Brain&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

                <description>The Neuroscience Program in the Center for Health Sciences at SRI International seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to optimize systems for entry, storage, extraction, integration, and analysis of clinical, neuropsychological, electrophysiological, and brain imaging data from ~900 (and growing) individuals participating in cross-sectional and longitudinal research studies of chronic effects of alcohol and/or HIV infection and normal aging on the brain.  The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for day-to-day management of information workflow and data quality control, initially supporting current systems while exploring ways to ensure future stability and integrity of data storage using enhanced informatics tools and secure web-based technologies.  The Postdoctoral Fellow will also apply mathematical techniques for modeling change in clinical, neuropsychological and neuroimaging measures and integrating data across modalities, and will participate in statistical analysis and writing scientific papers. 

Requirements:
Ph.D. in information science, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, statistics, mathematical modeling combined with the technical and interpersonal skills required for day to day management of information workflow. Must be able to use existing system for clinical, neuropsychological, and processed neuroimaging and electrophysiological data is based on Microsoft Access with customized query and retrieval tools written in SQL, VBA and python. At least 1 and preferably 2 years of experience using these or similar languages and maintaining a relational database is required. Neuroimaging data archiving, storage, and retrieval requires knowledge of UNIX/Linux, and basic medical image processing skills. Knowledge of requirements for maintaining subject confidentiality when sharing data.

                <title>PhD: Automated reconstruction of neural circuits</title>

&lt;p&gt;The imaging of complete neural circuits with synaptic resolution is now within reach with automated electron microscopy (EM). The reconstruction of every neuronal arbor and every synapse on every arbor would let us understand the neuroanatomical basis of brain function.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But manually reconstructing every neuron from serial EM is an extremely laborious task: even for a small animal with only 10,000 neurons, the predicted time is about 45 years. Automated techniques must be developed. Over the past 5 years a wealth of machine learning techniques for image segmentation have set the stage for what might be possible.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Our lab has manually reconstructed hundreds of neurons and we are ready to host a PhD project where algorithms are trained from human-generated ground truth for automated reconstruction of thousands of neurons.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You will develop new algorithms that learn the rules of neuronal morphology from human-reconstructed neurons, and apply them for the automated reconstruction of complete neural circuits. You will then analyze these circuits to understand how sensory input converges into higher-order processing centers and intervenes in the generation of motor patterns.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Other parallel projects ongoing in the lab are analyzing the function of neurons that have already been reconstructed, using genetically targeted neuronal activators and inhibitors.&lt;/p&gt;

One project is to study the structural and functional connectivity in models of axonal degeneration using techniques such as DTI, magnetization transfer, resting-state fMRI, etc. The other project is to develop functional imaging, including BOLD/CBV fMRI, perfusion, manganese enhanced MRI, CEST and PET, to understand how metabolic disorders such as diabetes exacerbate neurodegenerative diseases like dementia. We have very active interdisciplinary research teams consisting of people from engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, and neuroscience backgrounds. We also have extensive collaboration with major pharmaceutical companies to develop new methods for evaluating drug effects in the brain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The successful candidate will have chance to work at the Clinical Imaging Research Center to translate the methods into clinical applications. The center currently hosts a Siemens 3T TIM Trio system and is expanding to include more imaging modalities and higher field MRI.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Facility and Equipment:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The lab currently hosts a Varian 9.4T MRI, a Bruker 7T ClinScan MRI, a Bruker 400MHz NMR, a NanoSPECT/CT, a Siemens microPET/CT, and a hyperpolarizer (Hypersense). Other facilities include a chemistry lab for imaging probe development, a molecular biology lab for developing transgenic animal models, and the SBIC-Nikon imaging center, which hosts all the advanced live cell optical imaging systems by Nikon.                 <description>The Human Cognitive Neurophysiology Laboratory (www.ebire.org/hcnlab, affiliated with UC Davis and the Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California) is searching for a postdoctoral fellow to assist in the study the structural and functional consequences of traumatic brain injury.    Brain structure will be imaged on a 3.0T Siemens Verio using multimodal structural brain imaging (including high-resolution T1, diffusion tensor, FLAIR, and magnetization transfer imaging).  Results are analyzed using both Freesurfer-based cortical surface mapping and additional automated parcellation techniques to quantify tissue properties in subcortical structures and white matter tracts. MRI structure will be correlated with cognitive performance on PC-based cognitive test batteries.  The job involves close collaboration with international scientists, graduate students, and post-docs. Job Availability: Immediate. Job duration: 2-4 years.
