INCF Workshops

INCF Workshops focus on selected problems, including technical issues of primary importance to neuroinformatics, or research topics related to neuroscience databasing, tool development, and modeling of the nervous system function.

Each workshop usually has about 15 invited participants, selected on the basis of their expertise in the particular emphasis of the workshop. INCF National Nodes may send observers. Each workshop delivers a formal report on current activities and recommendations to serve as the basis for further activities initiated by the INCF. The workshop and report may lead to the launch of a INCF Program to provide related products, services, standards, and guidelines.

Upcoming Workshops

  • Title: 3rd INCF Workshop on Node Communication and Collaborative Neuroinformatics
Goal: This workshop will build on the results and discussions of the previous Nodes workshop that was held in Sigtuna in April, 2010. We meet at the Kobe Convention Center at 13:30. Following the afternoon schedule, there will be a dinner arranged to allow for continued discussions.

    Kobe, Japan, August 29, 2010

Past Workshops

  • Title: 2nd INCF Workshop on Node Communication and Collaborative Neuroinformatics
Theme: What can the National Nodes contribute to INCF? How can the INCF Secretariat support the National Nodes?

This workshop put emphasis on INCF Node interactions, achievements, and future developments. In addition, there were presentations of INCF advances, such as the INCF products Multisimulation Coordinator (MUSIC), that allows for interoperability between different simulators, and Waxholm Space (WHS), a spatial reference system allowing transformation between different types of digital atlases.
    Sigtuna (Stockholm), Sweden, April 2010

  • Title: 1st INCF Workshop on Neuroinformatics in Genetic Animal Models for Brain Diseases
Goal: The main theme is to discuss the use and benefits of applying neuroinformatics at each step of building, evaluating and using genetic animal models for human brain diseases. Participants include both neuroinformaticians and experimentalists, with representatives from the mouse/rodent, fly, zebrafish and non-human primate research communities.
    Stockholm, Sweden, December 2009

  • Title: 1st INCF Workshop on Time-Series Data: Analysis and Management
Goal: Given the tremendous technical progress in the acquisition of electrophysiological and other time series data, there is growing need for new and advanced methods to analyze, manage, and share these data. This workshop focused on the exploration of existing and upcoming standards, including data formats and best practices. It sought to identify challenges and discuss possible solutions, and will provide a report with recommendations to the INCF.
    Stockholm, Sweden, December 2008

  • Title: 1st INCF Workshop on Node Communication and Collaborative Neuroinformatics
Goal: Communication between the National Nodes and the Secretariat is crucial for the development of a global INCF network. Established channels and routines for interaction among the National Nodes will facilitate activities in the network. The workshop examined communication among the Nodes, as well as coordination between the Nodes and the Secretariat.
