Terms and conditions
- Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible, with the exception of employees of INCF, the contest judges and their families.
- Only original images may be submitted.
- For images from experiments that include work with humans or animals, ethical permissions are required. Identifiable people depicted in an image must give their written consent.
- Images must be submitted digitally by uploading to the INCF web site (www.incf.org/ImageCompetition). Maximum file size is 10MB. It is recommended that the file size be no smaller than 3MB, but smaller image files will not be disqualified.
- Files must be in .eps, .gif, .jpg, .pdf, .png, .psd, .svg, or .tiff format. Please submit the highest quality image with regard to file size and resolution. For .eps, .pdf, .psd or .svg files, please also provide an image version that can be easily viewed in a variety of browsers (.gif, .jpg, or .png) to facilitate the review process.
- Submissions should come with a brief description of the image and its scientific underpinnings (if known).
- Images will be judged on:
- Originality
- Informational content
- Relevance to INCF Programs, activities and objectives
- Visual impact
- Educational value
- Relevance to the Brain and Art theme (INCF Frontiers prize)
- Entries must be received no later than August 1st, 2010 to be eligible for prizes.
- Winners will be notified by August 25, 2010 and announced at the INCF Neuroinformatics 2010 Congress in Kobe August 30 - September 1.
- The decision of the panel of judges will be final.
- All files will be retained by INCF and the sponsors, and cannot be returned.
- By submitting your image to the competition, you will:
a) give non-exclusive rights to INCF to use your name and the image in connection with INCF matters. Images will only be used in connection with the INCF and accompanying publicity and will include appropriate credits.
b) grant the prize sponsors Frontiers and Olympus non-exclusive rights to use your name and image. Images will only be used in connection with INCF and the competition, and will include appropriate credits.
For both cases a) and b), you also certify that you hold the rights to grant such permission. - All reasonable care will be taken in
handling submitted files, but INCF will not assume any responsibility
for their loss or damage.
- Taxes, if any, on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prizewinner.
- Failure to comply with and accept all of the preceding rules will disqualify any entry.
