The INCF Neuroinformatics National Node for Switzerland began active development in 2010.  Switzerland is home to many exciting neuroinformatics projects, including the ground-breaking Blue Brain project, hosted at EPFL in Lausanne.  The goals of the national node are to promote the activities of Swiss research groups working in the field of neuroinformatics, and encourage and facilitate collaborations both between them and with the wider INCF community.  Our short term goals are to promote the work of these groups, while in the longer term to provide support for tools that enable collaboration and data sharing, or developing such systems where required.   A description of our current software development projects can be found on the Development page here.  We also plan to arrange a number of events to encourage collaborative work on Open Source software that is used by multiple neuroinformatics groups within Switzerland.

Although the INCF Swiss node will include and promote work in neuroinformatics in very broad terms, initially we are focusing as a particular theme on neural reconstruction, both from image data acquired via light microscopy and electron microscopy; these data are invaluable for identifying neural circuits and the simulation and modelling of these systems.  Some examples of this work can be seen on the Gallery page.

These pages are at an early stage of development, and we would be interested in contributions and suggestions from any groups working in neuroinformatics in Switzerland to this site.  In particular, if you have a made available some data under an open licences, or your lab is developing open source software that is useful in neuroinformatics research, it would be great if we could link to that from our Data or Software pages.  Please contact mailto:longair@ini.phys.ethz.ch if you would like to contribute to the Swiss node pages or to be listed as a collaborating research group.
