Neuronal Registry Task Force (NRTF)
In broad terms, the goal of this group is to create a registry in which one can browse and search neuron types based on their properties, and neuronal properties based on the types where they are found. Ultimately, each neuron type will be effectively defined based on its properties, and will be assigned a unique identifier, a preferred name, and a set of synonyms. Each property should be associated with a definition. A useful initial list of properties is given by the Petilla terminology (P.I.N.G., Nature Rev Neurosci., 2008).
There are currently 3 proposed phases for this effort:
Phase 1 (June 2009 - October 2009)
-
Refining the goal and scope of the Neuron Registry.
-
Designing the curator interface (via exchange of annotated mock-up screenshot drafts).
The specifications for the curator interface will be implemented in Fall 2009.
Phase 2 (November 2009 - May 2010)
-
Testing the intermediate prototypes and approving the final implementation.
-
Using the interface to seed-populate the Neuron Registry.
-
Specifying the design of the graphical user interface.
The specifications for the user interface will be implemented in Spring 2010.
Phase 3 (June 2010 - August 2010)
-
Testing the intermediate prototypes and approving a stable (alpha) implementation.
-
Propose a system of ongoing curation from community feedback.
-
Releasing a beta version of the Neuron Registry.
